Organization Name: Regional District of Nanaimo

Location: Nanaimo

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is pleased to announce the arrival of a new fire truck for the Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD). The $500,000 truck is a single axle tender purchased to replace the current tender, which is at the end of its lifecycle. The new truck was made possible through a  partnership between the RDN, the Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department and the Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department Society.

The new truck allows DVFD to maintain their Superior Tender Shuttle Accreditation, enabling efficient water delivery for fire suppression in areas without fire hydrants and providing potential insurance savings for residents. This truck will serve the Dashwood community and the neighbouring mutual aid communities for the next 20 to 25 years.

With input from the DVFD and other fire service representatives, Fort Garry Fire Trucks designed and built the truck in 18 months, with a number of unique specifications. The new truck carries 2,000 gallons of water, a 500-gallon increase over the current 1997 GMC tender.
