City of Charlottetown launches new heritage photo exhibit

The City of Charlottetown is celebrating the holiday season by launching its annual historic exhibit, entitled Season’s Greetings. The display contains a variety of photos from the city’s archival collection, antique and vintage items from the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation and City staff, as well as holiday cards and ads from the past.

This is the latest installment of the ongoing Picturing a City historic photo exhibit series that focuses on an aspect of the city’s history and displays photos from its archives in the windows of the Planning and Heritage Department at 233 Queen St.

Staff have opened up the city’s archival collection and chosen some charming photos from many different eras and locations all over Charlottetown. Images such as an 1860’s tobogganing party at Fanningbank or Christmas morning on Highland Avenue in the 1950’s, will be on display. Also displayed is a 1898 recipe for fruit cake, a tried and true Acadian meat pie recipe, as well as vintage toys and antique holiday baking utensils. Stop down, take a walk along the city sidewalks and learn about the Charlottetown of yesteryear during the holiday season. The exhibit runs until Monday, January 6, 2020.
