Composed of nine municipalities, York Region is Canada’s fastest growing area, with a population that’s expected to grow to 1.79 million people by the year 2041.
Reporting to the Commissioner, Corporate Services, the Chief Planner provides vision and leadership, guides and shapes Regional planning matters, integrates planning operations and builds teamwork between the various Regional Planning Branches. You will represent the Region with local municipalities, ensuring integration and linkage of land and building corridors, human services, and infrastructure while developing sustainable growth management strategies. You’ll lead, coach and motivate your departmental teams as they work collaboratively and responsively to provide sustainable, healthy communities, and economic vitality while developing plans to shape the look and overall urban design of the Region. The Chief Planner will lead a team of approximately 70 and a budget of $8.4 million.
An accomplished urban planner and strategic thought leader, you have excelled in a demanding, results-oriented senior management role. You have worked in complex public or private organizations with preference given to those with experience working in or interacting with municipal governments. Your reputation for high ethical standards and commitment to customer service sets you apart. You demonstrate a servant leadership approach and the desire to build future leaders who value collaboration, are supportive, and respectful in all their actions. Knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing growing and urban municipalities is essential.
