Database Administrator

Position Overview:      

Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the management of corporate relational database management systems (RDBMS) and application middleware (M/W) products. The DBA develops/reviews standards for the design of physical data storage, maintenance, and security administration with respect to databases. Responsibilities include the design, development, and performance of DBMS backup and recovery, business continuity, database performance tuning, and optimization of database resources for configuration, performance, and cost.

Responsibilities The DBA is responsible to:
  • Perform all tasks related to the ongoing management of Corporate RDBMS (e.g.: Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL) and M/W products (e.g.: OAS).
  • Provide proper security, performance, backup and recovery, and business continuity solutions.
  • Manage incident and problem management related to RDBMS and M/W.
  • Develop, maintain and enforce security policies and procedures related to RDBMS and M/W environments.
  • Participate and sometimes leads cross-functional teams involving business partners that may be involved in database related projects. Provides consultation and expertise related to database design and RFP content and evaluation
  • Maintain disaster recovery and business continuity solutions for production databases.
  • Participate in annual disaster recovery exercises
  • Record, analyze, and facilitate solutions to technical problems related to the operation and performance of databases, and coordinates all technical contacts with database vendors regarding support issues.
  • Ensures that RDBMS licensing requirements are met.
  • Performs strategic planning and life-cycle management for the City’s RDBMS and M/W environments.
  • May manage projects related to RDBMS systems.
  • Develop and maintain support documentation that includes technical configuration, standards, procedures and change management
Requirements :

The successful candidate will have three year College or University Education, with specialization in I.T. and RDBMS. Those with a certification in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), MCSA SQL Server and Oracle Certified Professional DBA (OCP) will be considered an asset. A minimum of 4 years IT experience with a minimum 2 years experience supporting and administering RDBMS environments for mission critical corporate applications is required. Experience with database installations, upgrades, and administration in a production environment is a must. Technical competency with Oracle, SqlServer, PL/SQL, and T-SQL is required, along with a working knowledge of database support tools. This role requires the candidate to be able to work independently and within project teams, have effective communication and interpersonal skills, and have experience managing moderately complex projects. Overtime and on-call as required. Emergency response is required for failed or non-performing production databases.

Salary Range      $68,333-$85,416
