POSITION:               Water Quality Technical Specialist

DEPARTMENT:       Operations

REPORTS TO:          Director of Water

LOCATION:             Initial Placement – Burford Administration Office

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Post Secondary education or equivalent combination of education and experience in Environmental, Civil or Chemical Engineering
  • Certified Water Operator (WT1 or higher)
  • 5 years of experience in drinking water operations
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy
  • Working knowledge of applicable Provincial legislation including but not limited to OWRA, SDWA, CWA, EPA, OHSA, Regs. 128/04, 170/03 and 903/90 and HPPA O. Reg. 319/08
  • Functional knowledge of plumbing, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation applicable to drinking water operations
  • Understanding of design, construction, operation and maintenance of municipal infrastructure, particularly drinking water infrastructure
  • Excellent communication, team, interpersonal and public relations skills
  • Exemplary organizational, records management and computer skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced team environment
  • Physical ability to perform activities on construction sites in all types of weather conditions
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with acceptable driver’s abstract
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Urban and rural municipal experience
  • Registration with OACETT with a CET designation
  • Ensure regulatory compliance of water quality matters through the design, implementation and maintenance of the water quality sampling, testing, analysis, recording and reporting programs
  • Supervise the duties of the Water Quality Technician
  • Analyze operations, identify problems and develop solutions for the County’s water supply and distribution (rural and urban) systems
  • Develop and ensure compliance with water quality procedures and protocols
  • Laisse with the Ministry of the Environment & Climate Change, Brant County Health Unit and general public regarding the water systems quality control program
  • Design and implement the water quality sampling programs for the County’s urban and rural municipal water supply systems
  • Prepare reports to the MOECC, Council, Committees and general public and as required by legislative requirements
  • Perform water quality complaint investigations
  • Act as lead for all drinking water related disinfection projects
  • Lead implementation of all the groundwater level monitoring program
  • Coordinate contractors and suppliers in the installation, maintenance and repair of the water quality systems in the county’s urban water quality systems and the complete rural water systems
  • Other duties as assigned

Current Salary Range:  $74,474 - $87,123 (Job Grade 8)   35 hours per week
