Project Manager, Capital Projects (Traffic Engineering)

An organized leader adept in Civil or Traffic Engineering and the principles and practices of Project Management will excel in this exciting career opportunity with the City of Hamilton’s Transportation Division.

As the Project Manager, Capital Projects, you will recommend policy and improvement strategies in the delivery of services to meet mandated goals and objectives, and evaluate financial and administrative performance against internal and external benchmarks and performance metrics. Undertaking functions relating to capital project scope preparation, reviewing and commenting on capital project design drawings and development application requests will be a part of your mandate, as will monitoring, analyzing and reporting on the program delivery performance metrics.

Your qualifications as a Project Manager, Capital Projects include:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a transportation environment, normally acquired by obtaining a diploma or degree in Civil or Traffic Engineering, or a relevant discipline; or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of Project Management through Business, Accounting and Finance, usually acquired through the successful completion of a degree or diploma in Accounting or a financial field, or other relevant field; or through a combination of education and relevant previous work experience.
  • Must possess and demonstrate key supervisory attributes, including effective leadership, coaching, team-building, interpersonal, communication, presentation, confidentiality, organizational, project management, conflict resolution and time management skills, as well as a commitment to promote and support team accomplishments within the Division.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the use of the “business case” in making management decisions and previous experience in developing policies and procedures.
  • Considerable experience with the preparation of contract tender documentation and an understanding of construction specifications and terminology.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and assignments in order to meet deadlines.
  • Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail, involving coordinating, reporting and tracking tendering documents, gained through practical experience.

 

This permanent, full-time position offers a wage range of $41.184 to $48.167 per hour (based on a 35-hour work week schedule).
