Job Profile

The City of Cambridge is looking for a skilled Fleet Technician to join our team. The Fleet Technician role will have the opportunity to work within a dynamic environment and build a rewarding career within a municipal setting. Working within the Infrastructure Services Department and reporting to the Fleet Supervisor, the following duties will apply:

What you will be doing

  • Works within the Fleet Services subdivision performing diagnostics, repairs and maintenance on all types/components of municipal fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Conducts equipment overhauls and annual inspections as per VIC regulations for all equipment.
  • Assists crew members as required while safely operating tools/equipment for diagnostic purposes, operational tests and verification of repairs.
  • Maintains an organized, clean and safe workspace.
  • Electronically records concise and accurate repair details to job tickets and inspection forms in the corporate CMMS.
  • Acts as Lead Hand for short durations.
  • Conducts duties in accordance with The Highway Traffic Act and corporate policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years on the job experience working in a fleet repair facility
  • Must have Valid Automotive Service Technician (310S) or (310T) Certificate of Qualification from the Skilled Trades Ontario (formally Ontario College of Trades). Preference will be given to candidates holding both certificates.
  • A valid Ontario Class D  driver’s license with Z endorsement in good standing, with a driver’s abstract acceptable to the City (4 or less demerit point may be considered acceptable, considering the nature of infractions).
  • Meets requirements of Physical Demands Analysis for position
  • High School Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent

Your compensation

This unionized position (Outside Workers) current hourly rate for 2025:

• Fleet Technician 3 – $38.37 to $40.73 per hour (both 310T and 310S required)
• Fleet Technician 2 – $36.45 to $38.70 per hour (310T or 310S required)

Hours of work

The successful candidate will be required to be on a rotating shift schedule (40 hours per week).  As per the collective agreement, the requirement to be available for overtime, standby, on call duty and possible shift work, as needed.
The current shifts are Monday to Friday:
6:00am – 2:00pm
7:00am – 3:00pm
10:00am – 6:00pm
2:30pm – 10:30pm (shift premium paid)
