The City of Martensville is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada and we have an opening for a permanent, full-time FLEET MANAGER.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure and Planning and working closely with multiple City departments this position provides leadership in the planning, coordination, maintenance and control of the City’s vehicle and equipment fleet services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for a high level of personal safety, as well as the safety of all others including co-workers and the public.
  • Manages the maintenance of the vehicle and equipment fleet including management and development of vehicle and equipment specifications in collaboration with City departments.
  • Manages and participates in tendering and procurement of vehicles and equipment.
  • Responsible for leadership, supervision and safety of City mechanics.
  • Leads assigned staff, assesses staffing needs, identifies and pursues other external resources if necessary. Plans and participates in staff development. Participates in performance management when required.
  • Determines whether the vehicle and equipment needs of civic departments can be met better from the civic fleet or from the private sector.
  • Assists municipal departments with the selection and allocation of vehicles and equipment for efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Develops and maintains cost-effective preventative maintenance programs and plans.
  • Oversees and manages third-party contracts related to the municipal fleet.
  • Assists with the development and updating of a municipal fleet asset management plan.
  • Develops policies and practices to ensure accountability for the procurement and inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Researches market for new vehicle and equipment technology to best support organizational needs.
  • Assists in preparing the annual capital and operating budgets for the municipal fleet.

What You Will Bring to the Team

  • A safety-first mindset and the passion to promote safety in everyone around you!
  • A valid Journeyperson designation in the applicable trade as it relates to fleet maintenance and management. This may include a recognized Apprenticeship Certificate or equivalent demonstrated experience and education.
  • Possession of, or eligibility to achieve, the Certified Public Fleet Professionals designation.
  • 7 years of progressively responsible fleet, supervisory, and leadership experience in vehicle and equipment management and maintenance.
  • Experience in a municipal or public-sector environment is considered an asset.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a driving record able to be insured by the City’s automobile insurance provider
  • Acknowledgement of responsibility and taking ownership for personal actions and
  • The ability to use reasonable judgment and make informed decisions to assist with achievement of corporate goals.
  • Strong principles that guide your You are credible and honest in commitment and presentation.
  • Extensive knowledge of fleet management including vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • The ability and desire to provide a high level of customer service.
  • A demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with civic staff, civic officials, and representatives of other agencies and the public.

  • Competitive Salary: Annual salary range of $87,873 to $105,253 based on skills, education and experience.
