About the Position:

Haliburton County is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief/Director of Paramedic Services to lead and oversee the County’s paramedic services. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of paramedic operations, including service delivery, financial management, compliance with provincial regulations, and strategic planning. The Chief/Director is a member of the senior management team and will play a critical role in ensuring that our paramedic services meet the evolving needs of our community while maintaining the highest standards of care and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the overall operations of paramedic services, ensuring efficient service delivery and operational excellence.
  • Develop and manage the department’s annual budget, including resource allocation and financial forecasting.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, including the Ambulance Act and Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.
  • Act as the County’s Emergency Management Coordinator, responsible for developing and maintaining the County’s Emergency Response Plan.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders such as community health organizations, hospitals, law enforcement, and local governments.
  • Foster a positive working environment, overseeing human resources management including labour relations and staff development.
  • Monitor and improve service quality by implementing performance metrics and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Integrate innovative technologies and best practices to continuously improve paramedic services.

 

Key Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership experience in paramedic services or emergency medical services gained through direct work experience over a number of years.
  • Certified to work as a paramedic in Ontario.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant provincial legislation, including the Ambulance Act and other public health regulations.
  • Strong financial management skills with experience in budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage emergency operations and coordinate multi-agency responses during crises.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders and community members.
  • Experience in labour relations and human resource management within a unionized environment.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to implement innovative solutions and plan for the future.
