Who are we?

The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) is one of Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities dedicated to innovative watershed management supporting a healthy environment, communities, and lifestyles. Our watershed spans approximately 3700 sq kms and includes all or part of 18 member municipalities within the counties of Simcoe, Grey, and Dufferin.  Significant features such as the Niagara Escarpment, the Minesing Wetlands and the Oak Ridges Moraine form part of the landscape.

This position is a permanent full-time position (35-hour work week). The annual salary range is $145,618.20 to $182,018.20 (Grade 12 – 2025 salary grid). Overtime in this position is expected and will require some evenings.

Summary of Functions

The CAO is the most senior NVCA employee and as such, is responsible for the performance of the organization, the success of its operations and the achievement of the NVCA’s strategic mission and vision. The CAO provides strong leadership to the management team and plays a central role in the establishment of plans and procedures that ensure that the strategic direction and long-term goals for the Authority are appropriate and accomplished on a timely basis.

The CAO represents and undertakes key liaison activities with member municipalities, Conservation Ontario, Provincial and Federal agencies and members of the public and client groups.

The CAO carries the statutory responsibilities of Secretary-Treasurer under the Conservation Authorities Act of Ontario and is a designed ‘signing officer’ on behalf of the NVCA.

Eligibility Requirements

Ideally, the incumbent has a post-secondary degree in Resource Management, Environmental Studies, Planning, Engineering or Business/Public Administration, a related program, or similar discipline and a minimum of ten (10) years of directly related experience, combined with progressive leadership experience. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and computer skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team. You must have a valid Ontario driver’s license.
