The Municipality of Wawa is seeking a person who wants to live, work and play in a small, Northern Ontario community that offers an abundance of recreational and social opportunities along with an exciting career. This position is ideal for a person who excels in a team environment and is excited to learn and grow as the Assistant Director of Infrastructure Services knowing the opportunity of becoming the Department’s Director is a strong possibility within a few years.

Wawa is just over two hours from Sault Ste. Marie and is located along the north shore of Lake Superior in a spectacular setting surrounded by the boreal forest, great fishing lakes and an expanding tourism industry. As the Assistant Director of Infrastructure Services, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks including overseeing the day-to-day operations of Public Works which includes scheduling, staff supervision, road maintenance, water and sewer services, airport, landfill and fleet management. The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the Director and a team of dedicated, unionized employees to achieve the modernization of services for the benefit of residents.

The Municipality of Wawa seeks someone who is adaptable, innovative and knows how to motivate and empower employees. He/she should have experience with effective team building and a proven ability to to maintain excellent working relationships with others including the public. An innovative person who plans for the future is a desirable candidate.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES NECESSARY:
• Must have five years+ municipal public works experience and a grade 12 diploma or a post-secondary school degree in civil engineering or related discipline.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license to attend various work sites.
• Must be a team-player with excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Must be capable of analyzing difficult situations and making appropriate decisions.
• Must have general knowledge of road and utility maintenance and regulations.
• Must have experience with being a supervisor and current human resource laws.
• Must be able to operate in a computerized environment (MS Office).
• Must be prepared to work extended and unusual hours when required.
