The City of Cranbrook is seeking a dedicated and experienced Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Disability Management Advisor to join our Human Resources team.

The City of Cranbrook is in the southeast corner of British Columbia amongst the majestic Rockies and Purcell mountains, near Alberta and the Canada/USA border. With a population of approximately 20,000, Cranbrook is the largest community in the East Kootenay. SALARY $92,490.85 to $112,704.98 per year, Advisors/Non-managerial Professionals
LOCATION Office-based with some travel to various worksites within the City of Cranbrook

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Human Resources Director, the OHS and Disability Management Advisor will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive OHS and disability management programs to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of our employees. This role requires a proactive individual with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Occupational Health and Safety:
• Monitor and report on OHS performance metrics, ensuring continuous improvement in safety practices.
• Develop, implement, and maintain OHS policies, programs, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Conduct regular workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and risk analyses to identify potential safety issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Lead the investigation of workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and develop strategies to prevent recurrence.
• Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on OHS matters, including training programs, safety meetings, and awareness campaigns.

Disability Management:
• Develop, implement, and maintain effective disability management programs, including early intervention, accommodation, and return-to-work processes.
• Collaborate with employees, managers, healthcare providers, and insurers to facilitate successful return-to- work plans.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, such as the Workers’ Compensation Act and the Human Rights Code.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of disability claims and accommodations.
• Provide education and training to managers and employees on disability management and accommodation best practices.
Policy and Program Development:
• Assist in the development and review of OHS and disability management policies and procedures to ensure they are current and effective.
• Stay informed of industry best practices, legislative changes, and emerging trends in OHS and disability management.

Communication and Reporting:
• Prepare and present reports on OHS and disability management activities and outcomes to senior management.
• Promote a culture of safety and well-being through effective communication and engagement strategies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Human Resources, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CRSP, CHRP, or CDMP) are preferred.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATES
• Valid Class five (5) Driver’s Licence

EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in OHS and disability management, preferably in a municipal or public sector environment.

SPECIFIC SKILLS
• Strong knowledge of OHS legislation, regulations, and best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications and experience with OHS and disability management software.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
• Able to obtain RCMP security clearance.
