Why is it working? versus Why is it failing?

When something stops working, the failure itself forces us to figure out what’s gone wrong and then, hopefully, fix the problem and get things back to normal. If we do this often enough, we can get very good at understanding why things go wrong and how to respond when they do. So far so good.
