Twenty-five years later, amalgamation still on the backburner in Essex County

There is a framed picture on the wall of the Essex and Community Historical Research Society that bares the individual portraits of the 38 representatives who governed Essex County in southwestern Ontario in 1970. At the time, the county was divided into 21 separate municipalities. Now there are seven, and a 14-member council speaks for the 181,530 residents (2021 Census).

Today, Essex County is made up of the towns of Essex, LaSalle, Kingsville,
