Why trees in the city are phenomenal investments in urban infrastructure

The tree in front of my residence in Halifax is a stately American elm of about 90 years of age. It has a trunk diameter of about 78 centimetres, and is close to 25 metres tall. In an interview with a reporter last year, as we stood together under the tree, I referred to it as a veritable workhorse. The reporter looked puzzled, so I explained.
