There was a time when we all understood that a town was a town and a farm was a farm and that what they had in common was geographic proximity. It was not until 10 or so years ago that we began to hear the terms “rural community” and “rural economy” – terms that seem to be creating a new classification: an integrated geopolitical designation called “rural” that includes both towns and farms.
