The importance of sense of place

The term “sense of place” has been used in many different ways and often confused with the term “sense of space.” A “space” is a physical description, whereas a “place” evokes an emotional attachment to the piece of land. I believe that Wallace Stegner coins the term the best. Stegner was an American novelist, noted mostly for his writings on the west and the preservation of the west.
