Canada is a suburban nation. Our research shows that two-thirds of the country’s total population lives in some form of suburb.1 Even in the largest metropolitan areas (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver), the portion of residents living in suburbs is over 80 percent. As a result, our larger cities must deal with the difficulties caused by low density, auto-defendant suburban growth.
