Back to the future with federal-local relations?
Prime Minister Trudeau takes office and a new era in federal relations with cities begins. That was the case, at least for a few years, after Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau took office in 1968. A Ministry of State for Urban Affairs (MSUA) was established in 1971 to develop a federal urban policy and to coordinate federal activities affecting urban Canada. In addition, national tri-level conferences were held, with municipal government represented in its own right.
