A “reckoning” gaining traction for municipal councillors engaging in harassment
A proposal to hold municipal elected officials in Ontario accountable for violence or harassment, once stalled and seemingly dead, is now displaying signs of life.
The Ontario government previously conducted public consultation in 2021 on more severe penalties for councillors who commit harassment following public pressure and calls for reform by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO).
It was sparked by two City of Ottawa integrity commissioner reports that found
