After a comprehensive recruitment process, the Town of Bracebridge announced the appointment of Paul Judson as Director of Finance/Treasurer for the town, effective July 6, 2020. Mr. Judson will be assuming the role of Director of Finance/Treasurer from Stephen Rettie, who will become the town’s next chief administrative officer at the end of June.
The Director of Finance/Treasurer is responsible for preparation of the town’s annual business plan and budget (operating and capital), taxation, payroll, and purchasing. To succeed with this mandate, the director has excellent leadership, team building, and interpersonal abilities. As a demonstrated critical and analytical thinker, the new director has superior communication, problem solving, negotiation, and conflict management skills and is a self-starter with the ability to manage competing deadlines. The director will provide advice to council on policies which guide future financial practices and processes.
“We are very pleased to have Paul assume this crucial role,” said Mayor Graydon Smith. “His extensive management experience as the Senior Director and Analytical Manager for S&P Global’s Canadian Government Ratings Group, and his previous positions with S&P Global, have positioned him well to be an outstanding leader of the town’s finances.”
“Having been a director and manager in another work environment for the past five years, and someone who is looking to set down roots in a smaller community with his family, I know how great this town is and what the community offers to its residents. I look forward to working with Mayor Smith, members of council, and all town staff as I transition into this important and influential role, continuing the great work that our residents have come to expect,” said Judson.
John Sisson, the town’s chief administrative officer, said, “Paul is recognized as a skilled and knowledgeable analyst, director, and manager. He is a great fit to lead the town’s finance department into the future. Paul will be working closely with our new CAO, Stephen Rettie, over the coming weeks to ensure a seamless transition to his new position.”
Judson has served as the Senior Director and Analytical Manager of the Canadian Government Ratings Group at S&P Global for the past five years. He began his career with Ontario’s Ministry of Finance, where he worked for three years as an economist. Prior to joining S&P Global, he worked at DBRS Limited as an analyst for six years.
Judson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts – Economics (Honours) from McMaster University and a Master’s Degree in Economics from Queen’s University, and he holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Professional development is an ongoing priority for him through various affiliated organizations such as the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO).
Paul makes spending time with his family a priority. In his spare time, Paul loves hiking, canoeing, photography, and fishing.
