The City of Mississauga has selected Chris Rouse as the new Director, Development and Design in Planning and Building, effective Monday, June 1, 2020. Rouse is currently the city’s Planning Manager for the North area. He replaces Lesley Pavan, who is retiring from the city on May 29, 2020.

“I am pleased to welcome Chris to the Planning and Building Department’s leadership team,” said Andrew Whittemore, Commissioner of Planning and Building. “Chris will be leading the Development and Design Division for the city. He brings a wealth of experience to this role, having held a variety of positions during his career including managing a team of planners, designers, and landscape architects over the last nine years. Chris knows Mississauga extremely well and will add tremendous insight into our future planning initiatives.”

In his new role as Director, Rouse will oversee the Development and Design Division, which is responsible for processing and reviewing development applications, performing proactive design work and special studies and consultations including landscape, streetscape, and urban design policy. The division is also responsible for master planning and providing design advice and information regarding design-related matters to city council, the public, developers, consultants, and other stakeholders.

Rouse joined the City of Mississauga in 1993 as a volunteer. He has subsequently held six different positions within the Development and Design Division. His experience ranges from small residential infill projects, redevelopment of historical buildings and new buildings within historical districts to small and large industrial, commercial, and institutional projects as well as industrial and residential developments.

“I am proud to work for the City of Mississauga and am looking forward to continuing to provide community planning services that will help shape, build, and create an inclusive, complete, and innovative world-class city,” said Rouse. “In my new role, I look forward to working closer with the city’s Leadership Team and as well as with mayor and council.”

Rouse holds a Degree in (Urban) Geography from the University of Guelph and a degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Ryerson University. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP) and is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute. In his leisure time, he enjoys fishing and spending time with his wife and four children at the family cottage.
