In August 2007, a rare event happened in Ontario – a landfill received ministerial permission to expand. The industrial, commercial, and institutional landfill in Ottawa owned by Waste Services Inc. had begun an Environmental Assessment (EA) in November 2005 to explore the possibility of continued use of the site for long-term disposal capacity in the Ottawa area.
