Bioenergy remains one of the great untapped energy sources in Canada. Even though Canada contains almost 10 percent of the world’s forests, has a long history of forest management, and is now a world leader in the pellet industry, Canadian communities have been slow to adopt modern bioenergy systems. Using bioenergy can stimulate local economic development, help mitigate contributions to climate change, and can even reduce local wildfire risk.
